Q: How many Ramayana sites does this 8-day tour cover?

This 8-day yatra covers more than 15 key Ramayana-linked sites, including Munneswaram, Manavari, Koneswaram, Shankari Devi Shakti Peetham, Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple, Gayathri Peedam, Sita Amman Temple, Ashok Vatika (Hakgala), Divurumpola, Ravana Falls, Ravana Cave, Kataragama, Ussangoda, Rumassala and Kelaniya.

Q: Do Indian travellers need a visa for Sri Lanka?

Since 25 May 2026, the tourist ETA is free of charge for Indian passport holders for a stay of up to 30 days, with double-entry permission. You still need to apply for the ETA online before you travel, through the official Sri Lanka immigration portal (eta.gov.lk). Approval usually arrives within a day. We are happy to guide you through the simple application.

Q: Are pure-vegetarian and Jain meals available?

Yes. Sri Lanka has plenty of pure-vegetarian and South Indian food, and we will plan your meal stops around vegetarian, Jain or satvik requirements. Please tell us your dietary needs when you enquire so we can brief your driver-guide and recommend suitable restaurants and hotels.

Q: Is this tour suitable for elderly pilgrims?

Yes. The pace is relaxed, travel is in a private air-conditioned vehicle, and the vehicle can be brought close to most temple entrances. Only Ravana Cave and a few viewpoints involve a steep climb, which is entirely optional.

Q: Can you provide a Hindi-speaking guide?

Our chauffeur-guides are licensed English-speaking guides who are familiar with the Ramayana sites and temple customs. A Hindi-speaking guide can be arranged on request, subject to availability – please mention this at the time of booking so we can confirm.

Q: What is the dress code for the temples?

Please wear clothing that covers the shoulders and knees. Footwear and hats must be removed before entering shrine areas. At some Hindu temples, men may be asked to remove their shirts in the inner sanctum.

Q: Is hotel accommodation included in the price?

No. Accommodation is not included in our package prices. You can stay at your own selected hotels, or we can arrange hotels from budget guesthouses to 5-star resorts to match your budget – please contact us before booking.

Q: Can the itinerary be customized or extended?

Yes, the tour is 100% flexible. Dates, stops, pace and overnight locations can all be adjusted, and extra days can be added for Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, a Yala safari or additional beach time.

Q: What is the best time of year for the Ramayana Trail?

The trail runs year-round. December to April is ideal for the hill country and south coast, while May to September suits the east coast around Trincomalee. We run private tours every month and will advise the best route for your dates.

Day 01 :

Airport Arrival – Munneswaram & Manavari Kovil (Chilaw) – Dambulla

Warm welcome by your private chauffeur-guide at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). Travel north along the coast to Chilaw to begin your Ramayana yatra.

Munneswaram Kovil: Visit one of Sri Lanka's most ancient Shiva temples, where Lord Rama is believed to have prayed to Lord Shiva to be absolved of the sin of killing Ravana (a Brahmin).

Manavari Kovil: Continue to Manavari, home of the first lingam installed and worshipped by Lord Rama – the only lingam besides Rameswaram named after him (Ramalingam).

Proceed inland to Dambulla / Habarana and check in to your hotel.

Overnight: Dambulla / Habarana

Day 02 :

Dambulla – Trincomalee (Koneswaram & Shankari Devi Shakti Peetham) – Dambulla

After breakfast, drive east to the natural harbour city of Trincomalee.

Koneswaram Temple: Explore the dramatic cliff-top Thiru Koneswaram Kovil on Swami Rock, one of the five historic Ishwarams of Lord Shiva, with sweeping Indian Ocean views.

Shankari Devi / Shakti Peetham: Offer prayers at the Shankari Devi shrine within the temple complex, revered as the first of the 18 Shakti Peethams.

Fort Frederick & Lovers' Leap: Walk through the colonial-era fort grounds and the Lovers' Leap viewpoint, followed by a little Trincomalee sightseeing.

Return to Dambulla in the evening.

Overnight: Dambulla / Habarana

Day 03 :

Dambulla – Kandy (Temple of the Tooth) – Ramboda (Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple)

Check out and drive south to the hill capital of Kandy.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic: Visit Sri Dalada Maligawa during the pooja ceremony, followed by a little Kandy city and lake sightseeing.

Ascend into the central highlands towards Ramboda through winding mountain roads and emerald tea country.

Tea Plantation & Factory: Tour a working Ceylon tea estate and factory with a fresh tea tasting – a favourite stop for Indian families.

Ramboda Falls: Stop to photograph one of Sri Lanka's most impressive cascades.

Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple: Conclude at the Chinmaya Mission's hilltop Hanuman temple overlooking the Ramboda valley.

Overnight: Ramboda / Nuwara Eliya

Day 04 :

Ramboda – Nuwara Eliya (Gayathri Peedam, Sita Amman, Ashok Vatika, Divurumpola) – Ella

Gayathri Peedam: Begin at the ancient Gayathri Peedam in Nuwara Eliya, where King Ravana's son Meghanada (Indrajit) is said to have performed penance to Lord Shiva to obtain divine weapons.

Sita Amman Temple: Visit the famous Seetha Amman Kovil beside the stream where Sita Mata is believed to have bathed during her captivity.

Hakgala Botanical Garden (Ashok Vatika): Walk through the gardens traditionally identified as Ashok Vatika, the pleasure garden where Sita was held by Ravana.

Divurumpola: Stop at the sacred site of Sita's Agni Pariksha (fire ordeal), still used today for taking solemn oaths.

Continue to Ella through the scenic mountain gap.

Overnight: Ella

Day 05 :

Ella (Ravana Falls & Ravana Cave) – Kataragama (Murugan Temple & Evening Pooja)

Enjoy a relaxed morning in the Ella hills.

Ravana Falls & Ravana Cave: Visit the thundering Ravana Falls and climb to the Ravana Cave, believed to be one of the hideaways where Sita was concealed. (The cave climb is optional for elders.)

Descend the southern mountain pass to the sacred town of Kataragama.

Kataragama Murugan Temple: Visit the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya, worshipped by Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims and the Vedda community alike. Offer prayers to Lord Murugan (Skanda) and visit the Kiri Vehera stupa nearby.

Evening Pooja: Take part in the atmospheric evening pooja ceremony with drumming, lamps and offerings.

Overnight: Kataragama

Travel Distance: 110 km | Travel Duration: Approx. 3 hours

Day 06 :

Kataragama – Ussangoda – Rumassala & Galle Fort – Bentota

Ussangoda: Explore the striking red-earth coastal plateau where Hanuman is said to have landed his fiery tail, scorching the ground.

Southern Coastal Drive: Travel west along the palm-fringed southern coastline with flexible photo stops and an optional beach break.

Rumassala: Visit the Rumassala hill near Unawatuna, believed to be a fallen fragment of the Himalayan Sanjeevani mountain carried by Hanuman, still known for its rare medicinal herbs.

Galle Fort: Stroll the ramparts, lighthouse and cobbled lanes of the 17th-century UNESCO World Heritage Galle Dutch Fort at sunset.

Continue to your beach hotel in Bentota.

Overnight: Bentota

Day 07 :

Bentota – Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara – Colombo (Temples & Shopping)

Enjoy a relaxed morning by the ocean, then travel north towards Colombo along the Southern Expressway.

Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara: Stop at the revered Kelaniya temple on the banks of the Kelani river, linked in tradition to King Vibhishana, Ravana's righteous brother who was crowned king of Lanka after the war.

Colombo sightseeing: Optional panoramic city drive – Gangaramaya Temple, the New Kathiresan and Old Kathiresan Kovils on Sea Street, Independence Square and Galle Face Green – plus time for souvenir and textile shopping.

Overnight: Colombo / Negombo (close to the airport)

Day 08 :

Colombo – Airport Departure (CMB)

Depending on your flight time, enjoy a final breakfast and any last-minute shopping.

Transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in good time for your departure flight, carrying home the blessings of your Ramayana yatra across Lanka.
